Straight Flush: 5 Get-Glowing Blushes

Straight Flush: 5 Get-Glowing Blushes
Get perfectly flushed cheeks with our guide to creating great cheekbones, bronzed highlights, and a glowing complexion.

Your Best Blush Guide

"Blush not only enhances your complexion, it makes you look happier and healthier," says Darrell Redleaf, a celebrity makeup artist. Follow our guide to get the perfect hue for you.

1. For a Natural Flush

Use a cream formula that allows skin to show through, and blend onto the apples of your cheeks using circular motions.

2. For a Dewy Complexion

Opt for a sheer gel stick that adds shine. Dab directly onto the cheekbone; diffuse color with your fingers. (Be sure to stay in the cheek area.)

3. To Get a Bronzed Glow

Choose a classic golden brown powder to fake a day in the sun; sweep along the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin.

4. To Get a Radiant Effect

Multicolor tones blend for a natural finish -- choose peach and gold if you're fair; darker skin looks vibrant with mauve and rust.

5. To Get Cheekbones That Pop

Define cheeks with an intense pop of color, then use an iridescent highlighter above and below for contrast, visually lifting cheekbones.

When applying blush, you want the color to look soft and natural, as if it comes from within. Read below for tips on how to put on make-up.

1. Tap or lightly blow on the applicator brush to remove any excess blush before applying to prevent a harsh and uneven application.

 2. Apply your blush on the apple of the cheek and carefully blend towards your natural hairline.

 3. If you have two shades, apply the darker one on the apple of the  cheek first, then use the lighter shade to highlight. Blend well so there is no visible line between colors.

 4. Highlight your temples, forehead and chin.

Tip: To know "where to glow" bend over for 30 seconds, then slowly stand up. Where your cheeks are flushed is where you are meant to blush. Apply your blush there and it will be naturally rosy every time.

Tip: Cheek color should be used to enhance your complexion, not to change your natural skin tone. Use sparingly for daytime, then add more or a deeper shade for a more dramatic night time effect. For special occasions, dust a lightly frosted powder over your cheekbones for a subtle but alluring glow.

Tip: Make sure to blend your blush into your foundation well or it will tend to look unnatural and add the appearance of 5 years to your looks.

How to Achieve a Sun-Kissed Look

How to Achieve a Sun-Kissed Look

This is the season where it’s more important than ever to achieve a sun-kissed look - even if it’s entirely fabricated!

We checked with one of our favorite beauty experts who gave us some fabulous pointers on how to achieve that look before we even get to the beach.

You have to have that all-important bronzer!

The most natural looking way to apply is to actually begin on the jaw line, just behind your ear. Gently smooth and swirl the product all the way across your jaw line and all around the perimeter of the face. Don’t forget your hairline, your temples and even the hallow of your cheeks. Then you can do a light dusting across the forehead, nose, and chin. This will give you a natural glow.

To balance out the bronze, apply a pinky-peach blush to the apples of the cheeks.

    * The rosiness gives it a more realistic finish.

    * Add a little shimmer powder to the tops of cheekbones and inner        corners of the eyes.

Don’t forget the lip!

To top it off, swipe a beautiful sheer pink lipgloss all over your pout. It will tie the whole look together.
